Consultation on Huddersfield Narrow Canal towpath improvements

People are being asked to give their views on proposed improvements to Huddersfield Narrow Canal towpath in a consultation that runs until 12 March 2017.

The plans are to improve the Canal towpath between Longroyd Lane in Huddersfield and Low Westwood Lane, opposite Titanic Mills.

It’s a 4.6km stretch and the plans include:

  • resurfacing – to create a year-round usable surface
  • widening to allow people to pass each other more comfortably
  • relaying and re-pointing the heritage cobbles around locks and bridges to make the towpath more accessible
  • improved signage

The planned improvements are part of the Canals Project, a programme of work being delivered across West Yorkshire by CityConnect, in partnership with Canal and River Trust.
