Young people aged 14 to 25 with a disability and/or special educational needs and their parents are invited to a special event.
The event will showcase the support available in Kirklees to prepare young people for adulthood.
The Preparing for Adulthood – local offer live event has been developed in partnership with Kirklees Special Schools.
The event will take place at the John Smith Stadium on Wednesday 12 October 2016 from 1pm-5pm.
The event will have over 50 stalls to show people the wide range of support and services currently available in Kirklees. The stalls cover four themes:
- Higher education and employment
- Independent living – planning for a home of my own
- Participating in society – having a life an being as healthy as possible.
The aim of the event is to bring information on the Kirklees local offer website to life.
Cllr Viv Kendrick, Kirklees Cabinet Member for Prevention, Early Intervention and Vulnerable Adults, said:
“This event is part of our commitment to early intervention. It’s important that parents of children and young people with a disability and/or special educational needs are aware of all the support and advice available in Kirklees. For some parents, there may be stalls at the event that could really make a big difference to their lives. For every professional attending the event, they may be able to signpost many other parents to the help they need. This event is about bringing people together to really make a difference.”
Places can be booked at the event by visiting eventbrite
